Solar PV Farm: RT Knits will produce 100% of its electricity needs by 2024

RT Knits was the first textile manufacturer to launch a solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in September 2022. Currently, the 1 MW PV installation accounts for 17% of the factory’s electricity consumption. The initial goal was to produce 100% of its electricity needs by 2030. Ahead of schedule, the target will be attained by 2024.

The company was at the forefront of negotiating the CEB CNIS (Carbon Neutral Industrial Sector) RE (Renewable Energy) Scheme with the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities. “We believe this scheme will help the whole textile industry in Mauritius to lower its carbon emissions”, says Kendall Tang, CEO.

As a first major step in its carbon reduction journey, RT Knits signed the SBTi (Science Based Targets Initiative) commitment to become carbon neutral by 2040.

In addition to the solar PV farm, RT Knits is relentlessly working on other sustainable initiatives.
