We started our environment protection journey back in 2008 when we were the first company in Mauritius to install solar water heaters at industrial scale in order to reduce our use of fossil fuel. In line with our commitment to adopt renewable energy sources, today marks a key milestone in our sustainability journey towards attaining carbon neutrality by 2040 as we have made an investment in 1,860 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels with a capacity of 540 watt each. As such, we will set up a solar farm of 1 megawatt which will put us on the right track towards producing 100% of our electricity from a renewable source by 2030. The installation of these PV panels will spread over 7,000 square metres and it is expected to be completed by July 2022.
We are proud of this bold environmental initiative in our quest to reduce carbon emissions, thus making a positive contribution to the planet.
