We are proud to share with you that as part and parcel of our environmental strategy to reach carbon neutrality by 2040, Our CEO, Mr Kendall Tang inaugurated our Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Farm on 2nd September 2022 during a launching ceremony attended by the Chief Guest, Honourable Soomilduth Bholah, Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives. The event was also attended by several leaders of the private and public sectors as well as representatives from academia. It is worth pointing out that we are the first company in the textile and apparel industry in Mauritius to set up a solar PV farm.
As a pioneer in textile and apparel manufacturing in Mauritius, with our roots dating back to 1970, RT Knits has consistently been engaged in the industrial development of Mauritius. Due to climate change, as a responsible corporate citizen, we started to implement our sustainability plan in 2007 when we were the first industrial company to install industrial scale solar water heaters. Since then, we have made significant progress in our sustainable manufacturing systems to better shield the environment.
Driven by our mission “to accelerate the transition towards sustainable clothing,” we have invested in the setting up of this solar PV farm comprising 1,840 panels on the rooftop of our factory. Each of the panels produces 540W, resulting in 1 MW of total energy production which represents 15% of our electricity consumption. In our sustainable energy plan, we aim is to produce 100% of our electrical energy consumption by 2030 through the expansion of our solar PV farm and deployment of our energy efficiency plan.
